Chester: Designed by Nature
Bird Murmuration Installation at Chester Riverbank.

Chester: Designed by Nature welcomed people back into Chester City Centre. In the wake of the pandemic we explored how nature adapts and offers us a blueprint for growth and resilience. We commissioned a wide range of artists to help us celebrate natural architecture and biomimicry, using nature’s recipes and processes to create new designs and ways of living. Commissioned by the Dorman Museum.

As a puppet maker and puppeteer, Nikki wanted this installation to have a sense of movement, so designed a bird murmuration that will float amongst the trees and bandstand by the river. Spectators can take their seat on the benches and look up at the birds.

Lantern Puppets
For Nottingham Light Night

In collaboration with Artist Bryony McCombie Smith, Nikki created a giant lantern puppet to form part of a stunning illumination procession as part of Nottingham Light Night. Sculpted with withy, this technique has influenced other puppets designs within Nikki’s portfolio.

Yarn Bombing

Yarn-bombed mobility scooters at Hockley Street Fayre

Hockley Street Fayre is an annual day of environmentally friendly fun in the heart of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter. For this event Nikki ‘yarn-bombed’ two mobility scooters. Driven by Nikki and her father, and announced by Adam Sharrock’s insistent drumming, they looked incredible weaving in and out of the gathered crowds.
